Jewish Girls Retreats

Our mission is to provide a safe and loving environment where Jewish girls of all backgrounds explore Judaism through the arts and nature. The camp provides girls with a variety of opportunities to explore and strengthen their musical, dramatic, dance and creative writing abilities as well as guide them to discover new talents. Each girl shines in her unique way and builds pride in her artistic and spiritual self. The fun and warm family-like atmosphere at camp enables girls to feel comfortable expressing their personalities and interests. At JGR, everyone is family!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there visiting day?2020-03-13T18:03:51+00:00

Being that many parents live too far to visit, we don’t have an official visiting day but you can request to visit on a day that is not a trip.

Where do I drop off my daughter for camp?2020-03-13T18:03:38+00:00

Drop-off is at the Jewish Leadership Campus in East Greenbush. You’ll be able to help your daughter drop off her luggage  and you can meet the staff at the meet and greet. This is your opportunity to talk to staff and say goodbye to your daughter. Your daughter will unpack after dinner with the assistance from her counselors.

Are there scholarships?2020-03-13T18:02:54+00:00

We have a limited amount of scholarships. We run a top notch program and can only give a limited amount of discounts when absolutely necessary. You can fill out the scholarship application. It’s a good idea to see if your local Jewish Federation offers scholarships. We try very hard not to turn any Jewish girl away for lack of funds.

Do I have to pay all at once for camp?2020-03-13T18:02:22+00:00

You can have a payment plan that must be paid up before camp begins.

Can I come for a shorter time?2020-03-13T18:02:06+00:00

The retreat is designed for girls to attend the entire time, but in special circumstances girls can come for part of the time. Please contact us for more information.

What is kashrut supervision?2020-03-13T18:01:45+00:00

Kashrut will be supervised by Rabbi Avraham Laber, Chabad of S. Rensselaer NY.  All meals are glatt kosher and Chalav Yisrael.

What is the Judaic program?2020-03-13T18:00:36+00:00

After prayer in the morning, we  have an engaging GROW Learning workshop and focus on the theme for the day using icebreakers, writing prompts, discussions, creative writing, stories  and songs. Our theme is also integrated into the activities and trips. We teach through hands-on activities and through providing our campers with leadership opportunities. Our Judaic programming is designed to instill campers with a love for Judaism and pride in becoming a Jewish Woman long after the summer is over.

What are the accommodations?2021-02-18T19:31:28+00:00

Girls lodge in the new Jewish Leadership Campus, with 3-6 girls per room. Visit our facility page for more information about our location.

We are just 3 hours from NYC and Boston, 4 hours from Montreal, and just 5 minutes from Albany.

Who are your staff?2020-03-13T17:59:22+00:00

Our counselors are the key to the incredible experience at Jewish Girls Retreat. They care for each camper individually with unmatched warmth, dedication and companionship that is difficult to express in words. We have a staff-camper ratio of 1-3, giving each camper valuable individual attention. Many staff members return year after year, lending experience and continuity to all programs. Each counselor is a role model for the girls, promising them friendship which will last forever. Our experienced and hand-picked counselors come from all around the world to spend their summer at Jewish Girls Retreat.

What Jewish backgrounds do campers come from?2020-03-13T17:53:30+00:00

Our campers come from diverse Jewish backgrounds and all levels of observance. Our dynamic program emphasizes the unity of all Jews. Our camp is right for all Jewish girls that wish to grow as Jewish Leaders and express their Jewish creative self through fun, adventure and the arts. Our campers learn to accept one another in a loving and non-judgmental atmosphere. In order to create a sense of unity, we have incorporated a dress code of skirts and shirts covering the elbow.
